I'm very fortunate in regards to our traffic conditions here in Chattanooga...2011 TDI - 21mpg around town and 28mpg on our last 500+ mile road trip!

My wife's Touareg 2.5tdi was far more economical than my Q7. Even allowing for the fact mine is the 4.2tdi, it is still very poor.

On a 25o mile round trip on Saturday I saw 28.9 mpg. That is UK gallons so a little larger than US gallons and it was fairly gentle driving.

On a day to day basis - I have a short journey to work and average about 18 with a lot stop-start journeys.

With the same engine, the A8 managed about 30 during the week and I would see a bit over 40 at times on a long journey.

Wife and I drove to Las Vegas for Christmas; 575 miles one-way. Averaged 80 MPH, DIC said 21.7 MPG upon arrival. Headed back home tomorrow, so will check again.

Check out fuelly.com. It is a site people can post fuel usage, the site then calculates and tracks milage.

Are the mileages based on real miles/gallons or computer recording?

Cheers,

Usage on my TDI is here: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/my12q7/q7

I've tracked fuel usage since new (2+years)

2014 3.0 gets me nearly 22-23mpg on hwy if I stay below 70mph. My long trip recently with mostly 80-85mph resulted 19.4mpg based on the receipts I've collected for 1900 miles of travel.
