A8 + $30K = S8. where does that money go?

The loyalty credit is available now, it has been for some time, and the current program is good until 8 July. I can't imagine that it varies by dealer: mcdonaldaudi.com/audi-loyalty-incentives.htm

Here are side-by-side 2013 A8/S8 spec and equipment profiles...
See attached PDF file from Audi of America press kit. This should give you a detailed view of what the differences are.

Jake - thanks for the ACNA information. I joined today. What is the $ 500. loyalty bonus ? Have you had a positive experience with participating Audi dealers purchasing (ordering) Audi models at 6% below MSRP ? Guess I'll be waiting six months to qualify.

It is an incentive paid partly by AoA via ACNA to current owners who buy again on top of other incentives like the $3k my dealer participated in.
Had to email them a copy of my bill of sale and registration.
They changed the program in 2013 so I haven't had experience with the new one.... yet

Depending where you from, you'll probably never seen anyone else driving an S8. I've seen one in all of LA since I've had mine.
Drive the 2 and you'll see the difference. Sure you could tune an A8, but better tires on it, load up an A8 with all the packages, but you'd still have a a lesser car.
I just got cut off but some dick in a 4.0t A8 on the highway. Didn't do anything til I got on the 10-PCH turn, and barely passed him. As fate would have it, we ended up next to each other first inline at a red light on the PCH. Maybe he didn't see the S8 badge, or know what it was. He revved his engine to race, and I laughably walked away from him at a green light.
I don't do that often, but I couldn't help myself from cracking up when he caught up to me and gave me a look. (I let off at 50, easily 2 car lengths or more ahead of him).
Knowing I bought the quickest, most luxurious, and exclusive Audi sedan on the road. That's enough justification for me.

I was close to leasing an S8 over an A8L 4.0, in fact was working a deal with a Daytona Grey with silver leather (just like my RS6) but really wanted the L version for the rear seat space. The reason for upsizing from a RS6 was for the rear seat room for the kids. The difference is substantial, especially with teenagers. The car I test drove locally was not quite the right color choice I'd would have ordered, but after driving the A8L and running the numbers it was a no brainer for me. The S8 would be nice, but the A8L is close enough for me. It's quicker than my RS6 (not faster due to 130 mph limiter d'ooh) but it's handling even with the All Season Radials is pretty darn good.
I drove a S8 at an Audi even, that's a great car. If you spec out an A8 to the max you will get pretty close to the S8 in price. My A8L does not have the LED lights, nor active cruise, nor lane warning system, but it has the Twin Turbo V8........

Its not really a 30k delta
Assuming you are comparing the V8 A8 NWB to the V8 S8.
Once you add up all the options that are standard on the S8, the delta gets a lot smaller. If you play around on the configurator page a bit, you'll quickly see that its really closer to about 11k.
You need to add about 22k in options to the A8 to get to a base level low option S8
Camera assistance package$ 750
Black Alcantara® headliner$ 1,500
Sport Plus package$ 3,500
Warm weather package$ 1,700
Full LED headlights$ 1,600
Driver Assistance package $ 3,000
Sport Design package$ 4,500
Extended leather package$ 750
Dual pane acoustic break-resistant glass$ 600
Convenience package$ 3,000
Cold weather package $ 800
MSRP: $103495
S8
Cold weather package $ 800
Driver assistance package $ 2,500
Lane assist package $ 500
MSRP: $114695
Delta: $11200
S8 also has a few extras that are not on the A8, 21's for example. According audi.de the price delta for 20's versus 21's is about 1200 euros. In the S8 I think they cover a few more surfaces in leather too. You would need to order up extended leather to even things out. Obviously the turbos are bigger you get more ponies, and you get a few other goodies. Is it worth the 11k delta? You could go the route of chipping your D4 from APR, of course the warranty banditos will not look kindly upon you.
Porsche gets away with charging 17.8k for a "power kit" on their 911 4S and those have a relatively similar base price. (105k base) In that case you are only getting 30hp for that 17.8k. Getting a 100 extra ponies for 11k is a relative bargain.
($593/hp vs $112/hp)
