Before everyone gets their knickers in a knot over my post, keep in mind the forums we're all frequenting. None of us need an A8, 'L' or otherwise. While I do need more room than my current S4 Cab provides, I didn't need an S6, since the 2.0T would more than suffice to get me from points A to B. Hell, a 4-door Hyundai would be a more logical choice.

My point is that needs and wants are different animals. We all wanted something more than a typical pedestrian sedan and more power to us for being able to afford that choice.

Since I am responsible for causing such a lively discussion and all valid points of view, it reminds me of my other thread I started whether the BMW F10 M5 is worth the extra $20K. A diehard bimmer fan would not drive anything but a BMW nor would they open their minds to a less expensive but "practical" point A to B S6 ride.

I went from a coupe S5 (never thought I would sell 5 years later) to a 4-door S6 because my family was growing AND I LOVE the tech toys in the latest models. I could have justified keeping the S5 since I have the Q7. What is practical transportation to me will most likely differ with others. I totally get it.

Just like I get it if someone thinks an A8L is too much car. I almost got the S8 thinking it will provide more legroom - good thing I did not, I just did not need the "extra legroom". But if one is convinced it is the right car (albeit could be a Hyundai with fancy LED DRLs), I say more power to that person.

In essence, I agree with DeerHunter and many others' opinions.

I would go with the specially made Wagon Queen Family Truckster seen in National Lampoon's Vacation movie.

Nothing wrong with going for a LWB. I don't use the back seat much, but going LWB was not a big difference on the lease price.

When I do have people in the back though, they love being there

I got my 2013 A8L because the dealer made an error on their monthly lease quote by $250 per month and they had to honor it. I had to take the deal with all the goodies B&O, alcantara, LED, etc. My teen aged daughter is very happy with the legroom and luxury in the back even when my wife slides and reclines her seat in front. Everyone is happy!

Bingo. The extra legroom is wonderful, but there's a bunch of other stuff that sets the L apart from the NWB. For example, the piano black finish that comes standard on the L was not even available as a special order item on the NWB.

And the piano black parts offset the wood and leather nicely. Love the extended leather but I don't understand why the Alcantara is not standard. It's very nice. I have it in the RS.
