Default Exhaust question

Hi everyone! I’m an rs4 owner since 2007, bought mine new and as far cars go I can honestly say that this one might be the best I’ve ever come across
Currently thinking of getting an aftermarket exhaust for it. Haven’t made my mind yet, but probably it’s going to be the HMS valved exhaust from germany, not too pricey and really meaty in terms of sound.
Any tips for me? What really scared me is the probability of the car actually losing power instead of gaining it. Many people have confirmed the possible loss. Does it require a remap when fitting an exhaust?
Thanks in advance!

I didn't notice any difference in power up or down when I fitted my exhaust (magnaflow cat back). Sound is certainly better!

Thanks for the reply, Brian. Well, many people on this forum (www.rs246.com) have stated the obvious power loss due to the exhaust installation. Is the magnaflow system a full one or just a catback, by the way? Quite like the sound.

Interesting. I suppose it's possible that my ***-dyno isn't as sensitive as some but I think I would feel a 25hp difference.

Mine is a cat-back system.

You can hear (and see I guess) mine here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtfRLQgExIs

I cannot imagine power loss from an exhaust, especially something more open than stock. The bulk of the back pressure is from the cats anyway. Promises of big gains are usually a joke from a cat back exhaust, and I would bet money that loss of power is just as much hype.

I love my Tubi (as anyone here can probably tell). Magnaflow also sounds good, and the new system from AWE too. I think the Milltek probably sounds good, but many report droning, so I stayed away from that.

Do it, and don't look back. You'll be pleased you did, I promise.

Wow...and the misinformation continues.

Milltek and MagnaFlow BOTH offer PROVEN horsepower gains. I believe BOTH have dyno sheets on their websites.

I've had them both and can attest that both deliver as advertised.

The only known power loss issues associated with aftermarket exhausts were cases of the muffler flap solenoids not being capped off - not because of the exhaust. The resulting intermittent vacuum leak causes problems. Just avoid that blunder and everything should be fine.
