Haven't really noticed the hesitation issue with the 4.2.
Not sure if it is more minimal, or I've subconsciously worked around it.
My 5,000 is due so will see what my SA has to say and report back.

Just had my 5000 mile service at 8800 miles.
Updated shift "position" software. Nothing to do with the hesitation. I did not notice anything different.
The delay/lag/hesitation problem is real. And is a pain. Same in 2012 non turbo A8L with V8 by the way.
My service department clerk said its something Audi may "fix" it.
I've re-trained my right foot to compensate. I can now compensate for the flaw. But when I drive the other cars I have to remember not to push to fast!
The tank recall was done also. No leak, just a campaign to it before it leaks
