Yup... a black G5 would look pretty good here. Anybody want to buy a mildly used 30GB iPod Photo?

Default Yeah, FM interfaces are quick and dirty, but...

...I really found the static to be too much. I actually was very happy with a similar solution until I got my A6 and learned that I had the option for tigher integration.

Specifically, I used a combination of the <a href="http://www.tentechnology.com/products/products_flexibledock.php">Ten Technologies FlexbileDock</a> (great review at <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/ten-technology-flexibledock-adjustable-car-dock-and-charger-for-ipod-ipod/">www.ilounge.com</a>) and a cassette adapter (click <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/an-introduction-to-cassette-tape-adapters/">here</a> for a great discussion of tape adapters at iLounge). The cable for the cassette adapter wasn't very pretty, but the FlexibleDock is a great neutral color that blends well with most interiors and cassette adapters offer less static than most FM transmitters.

You may want to consider adding an aux 12V adapter under the armrest (see my signature for the link) for your solution -- it would put the iPod right at your fingertips while your arm is on the armrest and would allow you to close the ashtray.

Default Thanks for doing the test. I'm still debating between the Icelink and a few other options.

And of course there's always the chance that the next iPod may have Bluetooth. ;-)

I've used an Griffin iTrip for years and don't have a static issue.

Default Re: IceLink firmware history from 2.10 - 2.15

Any idea what, specifically, the Audi-specific changes were in firmware version 2.11? Is there any documentation that describes how the Symphony II HU's random functions should work with the IceLink?

Strange behavior: I was running firmware 2.07. That version has a Setup menu item that allowed you assign the AlbumPlay feature to the HU's Random setting. I had the option turned on. Then I upgraded to firmware 2.17. That version does not offer an opption to assign AlbumPlay to the HU. However, the AlbumPlay function seems "stuck" to my HU Random function, and there is no apparet way to dis-associate the two now that this option has vanished from the current firmware. I can't get my HU Random function to actually affect the iPod's shuffle mode. HU Random insists on turning on AlbumPlay. Maybe a system reset or something would help? Not sure how to do that...
