Default Air Intake Pipe Repair

Does anyone know if it is possible to repair a split in this pipe. They are no longer available new and I can't find a good one here in New Zealand. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the black rubber boot that goes from the air box to the throttle body? If so, you can clean it REALLY well and use some Permatex 1-Minute Gasket or any other gasket material that will resist gas, oil, heat, etc. I had a few good size cracks in mine, and this stuff bonds to the rubber beautifully. You just have to make sure you clean it well. I used Dawn dish soap and Simple Green, since they don't eat rubber, but they degrease very well.

thanks for the answer. i was sure it had to be possible. i have since found an alternative hosepipe, but will have a go at repairing the old one, and pass the info on to my mechanic who said it can't be done.

cheers

No problem. I've tried other gasket material, but the Permatex stuff worked the best. It's very sticky, which is key to getting it to bond to the boot. You just have to get it really clean, even inside the crack if you can. Once it's clean and dry, press that stuff deep into the crack. You should then be able to reach inside and smooth it out pretty easily. I'm currently looking for a way to make a mold of mine and essentially pour myself a new boot. It's ambitious, but I plan on keeping this car for many, many years.
