How often do you use Techron? Any other regular use additives?

Default Probably once a year for Techron

Usually in the spring for me, just when I'm cleaning up from a rough winter.

One - perhaps two - tanks of gas with it immediately prior to an oil change.

LM-why do you use it prior to changing the oil?

Default Because the instructions basically say as much...I believe it doesn't do anything to help the oil.

There's more and quicker breakdown of oil when in the presence of it...I think it says to use a maximum of twice (or some such) between oil changes. I will (if I remember, which is quite an issue in itself) add a dose to the tank or two just before I have the oil changed so that if the oil does suffer, it's not in there very long. I have the oil changed every 5k, and use synthetic...probably overkill, but there's not a lot else to be done in the way of preventative medicine besides observing good warm-up procedures.

Most big name gas brands already have more than enough cleansers in product with less oil content.

Isn't that the same as Techron?

Default Thanks. Reason I ask is I'm about to do the techron routine myself, but I also just..

changed my oil (synthetic, like you) only 1,000 miles ago. So maybe I'll wait on the Techron treatment until just before the oil change.

Thanks for the great explanation!

Jeff
