Default Possible if you put excessive stress on them

Bentley suggests supporting the suspension to keep it from dropping too far down with the shock assembly removed.

The other possibility is that the new shocks are putting greater stresses on the suspension pieces (especially if they are a lot firmer than the old one's). That would help to make any existing wear or slop a lot more noticeable.

Default Re: Just for reference...

I am having the same issue. Not sure what I did wrong but I replaced the upper hats and it still does it. I used the vice-grip method to tighten the shock rod. Could that be causing my issues?

Default Hopefully a FINAL update! (inside...)

Yanked the corner off this morning, took the mount off, moved the washer to the correct location (UNDER the mount, not between the nut and mount), put it back in the car, torqued everything down...

and voila! no more clunking.

i can definitely tell i need an alignement though...

Oh, and I realized that the idiots who mounted my tires mounted them ALL going counter-clockwise. so the left side of the car is going in the right direction, the right side is not

Virtually always will slip before it is tightened to the right torque.

Default I've had good results with this method

you chew up the outside of the socket a little, but that doesn't matter. I haven't had to use a whole lot of torque with that nut when I've done it. I'm not saying that this is the best way, but it's simple and it works.
