All depends what someone is willing to pay. Best bet would be to put it on ebay with a high reserve
Then you find the true value, as you know that you have two people willing to pay whatever the end price minus the bid increments are. Auctions are great as you sometimes get the bidding frenzy affect. I think that explains the super high price paid for a couple of recent cars.
Heck, maybe it would bring $25k. That would be nice. No way to know until it sells.
For my values, I look at what comparables go for in actual sales. Like Racingiron's '86, which is probably just as nice as that '84, but went for much less. Considering that there are less than a handfull of North American '86 ur quattros, I would think Eric's car should be worth top dollar.
I think James is bullish on these cars as he has his already. ;^)

You gotta play up the value guys! Hype is what makes a certain hunk of metal more expensive.
than another.
2500 lbs of steel, plastic and glass can take many forms. So Hype is good.

I think the "hype" has to come from someone other than owners and the manufacturer.
Look at recent article written about ur quattros, the values they list are ridiculously low. Didn't one magazine say that you could pick up a nice one for $2500? Those are the people that have to get the hype. I can tell people that my car is worth $25k, but if they read from "experts" in Car & Drivel that a good one will cost them $2500, who do you think they will believe? Hint, not the proud owner...

I had a second look..
the battery box looks a bit iffy... both mufflers will need replacing... and the sunroof looks like it's missing a seal.
Otherwise I can't fault it. Looks very good indeed.
I think this car is probably worth $15-17k if all else checks out.
Given the right buyer (right time and right place) they could pay the asking price and still feel good about the deal.
