Default you = DOOFUS...

While you may (or may not) know YOUR car, you certainly DO NOT know this one. So, YOUR opinion is essentially the only "BS" in all this.

It's really none of your business, but since YOU chose to publicly label my deal "BS," I will perform a forum service and educate you about a few points on this car about which you are clearly 100% ignorant:

- It is in absolutely pristine condition. "Pristine" even for 25,000 miles. I have personally purchased seven Audis over the past 22 years (and you?), including my current RS6 (details below). This 2000 S4 is the finest pre-owned Audi of a comparable age I've ever personally inspected. 100% perfect paint; no door-edge paint chips; no paint swirls; no front-apron stone chips. Also, no flaws on leather/Alcantara seating surfaces; no shift-surround scratching; no kick-panel scuffing; no door "step-over" scratching; no de-laminating of black plastic surfaces near door handles and elsewhere; no stone chips or the like on painted body panels behind wheels (as the car has had Audi mud flaps); no mechanical mods of any sort; no appreciable carpet wear or filth including the trunk; one mature local owner (whose name and address I have).

- Car was mechanically inspected by the dealer. "So what," you say? Based on that inspection, no fewer than four dealer sales guys were in line to purchase the car for their personal use.

- Car has had 30,000-mile service already performed by the previous owner prior to his trading the car.

- Car's full maintenance history is available to me.

- This car has 45,000 fewer miles than the one you reference from Field's. At 10 cents a mile (which is pretty conservative, especilly for an S4), the "adjusted cost" of the car I bought--to compare apples to apples--would have my deal $2,000 MORE ADVANTAGEOUS than yours, assuming you made your deal yesterday (as I did) which is doubtful. (By the way, how many owners/drivers put those extra 45,000 miles on the car you bought? And with the 6-speed, I'm sure they were "easy miles.")

- This car is Tiptronic; yours is a six-speed. While you may well prefer the manual, you should check to see which was optional and what that cost originally, and is worth on re-sale today. (Try Edmunds.com.) Similarly, power moon roof, heated seats, Alcantara, 6 cd changer and more.

- This car has had five brand new Continental Extremes balanced and mounted added to the deal, approximately an $800 incremental value.

Car deals are car deals, and everyone should be happy with theirs. Normally, I'd not get into deal-bashing sorts of discussions at all. But "slamming" someone else's deal--as you did-- is unmanly.

And critiquing someone else's deal without benefit of sufficient information will often result in the posts headlined as this one is.

Default the way I read it.. he was saying you got a good deal.

meaning it's bs that he got a car with 45,000 more miles, probably in worse shape, and paid only ~$1,700 less. i know you got a great deal on the S4, because i recently bought one, and have been pricing them for a while.

the only thing i might disagree with is the value of the automatic S4's vs. the manual S4's with respect to the used market. while in theory it was more expensive to get an automatic from the dealer, i have noticed the trend with S4's in manual form selling faster, and for more. this may just be my observation, but i saw many more deals on automatics.

it sounds like you got a great deal, and good luck with the car. my S4 has been solid since purchasing it from a friend.

Thanks. To be clear, every cent in this deal is my son's money, earned (or borrowed) in the Army.
