Default Replacing MMI with aftermarket Pioneer

I'm looking at Pioneer for their AVH-P8400BH (no NAVI) for about 500. and perhaps a back up camera too..its another 150.

I figure I can use the iphone to integrate the navi. Has anyone installed an aftermaket double din receiver on a C6 platform?

Where would you put it? There is no place in the dash for a double DIN. Also you would somehow need to interface it with the MOST FO ring if you want to use the existing amplifier and speakers. I suppose you could wire to the speakers directly but the harness connection would be a challenge.

And again I ask, where would you put it?

I wanted to stick it where the screen is. I figured that's where it would fit.

After a half dozen calls or so. I found out the Amp and speakers are unlikely to fit. I would possibly have to re-wire the car. Or maybe just a new amp and then connect the speakers. There aren't any harnesses for it from the 3 manufacturers for crutchfield. so that will be difficult along with the lack of plastic molding. I'm going to have get a friend with a shop and have custom pieces cut if I was to do this project.

It looks like the A4 has no issues with that since its a bigger market for the a4 and customization. As for the a6, I'm going to have to keep asking questions and looking for old forum posts from someone who has done the project. After reading from Audi, the MMI designs take 3-5+ years so the features included the 2006 were also in 2005 and those designs are at least 3 years old. So the lack touchscreen, bluetooth music audio (which can be solved), no NAV in my car but aftermarket is less--I was thinking at the end of the day, I just want bluetooth music audio so I don't always have to listen to the radio.

Plus my MMI doesn't work now. After the last servicing, the big middle button has stopped turning, it presses and everything else works, but it doesn't go register the turning. I figured if I'm going to get a new MMI at 200 and need bluetooth audio, might as well get a new system.

You'd likely only need to replace the control panel, not the entire system.

$199 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AUDI-MUL...ht_3810wt_1414

You could also add an AMI or Dension if those worked for you.

That would make more sense with the control module.
Would a MMI from a q7 work? Did a quick search and an audi mechanic on craigslist was selling one for 100. I'm waiting on pics from him. But this ebay post here shows the same pic

It looks the same per ECS http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/4L0_919_610/ES398047/

But... I have no idea if it would work or not

EDIT:
Found two in the classified here on AudiWorld
