Redneck Truck

I'm too lazy to learn the entire EVAP system on my 4.2, so I'm hoping to simplify it as much as possible. On the Touareg motor I bought, the LDP vacuum port on the front of the manifold was capped, which leads me to wonder if the car was so equipped, and if not, if it is possible for me to do away with it as well. I've replaced the purge valve, inspected all the vacuum lines, and definitely have fuel vapor at the valve when I disconnect it, so I'm wondering if that pump really does any good or if it's just another part (and system) to fail.
