Anyone consider the Mercedes E550 when shopping for an A6 4.2 or S6 for that matter?

Quattro aside, did anyone cross shop the E550? If you did, could you please post what swayed your vote to purchase the Audi or the Mercedes?
I'm not trying to incite a flame war or riot here. I've owned several Audis in the past, but this may be my first foray into the MB world.
Thanks in advance.

When is the new model coming out? Will the performance be any better?
Why would I consider the E550?
382HP V8
7 speed automatic transmission
Good combination of handling and ride quality
Rear leg room
Huge trunk
I like quattro, but it's not a deal breaker for me either.

Myabe not for at least a year....come out in 2009 as a 2010 model,,,but should have a nice look....
...similar front fascia to the new c-class and cl-class.
Take the S6 and E550 back to back and then see if you still like the merc. (obviously the 4.2 is going to seem asthmatic after the 550) As stated above....fit, finish, recaro seats, EXCLUSIVITY??? Each car has its own personality...
If you want to get the mercedes go for it...do what makes you happy. Experiment, try new things.

considered MB but reliability is hit or. . .
miss these days. Check out all the E350s on ebay being resold after being "fixed" for the 7 speed transmission problem.
Until MB works out its quality control issues, I am with Audi for now.

Andy

Re: Anyone consider the Mercedes E550 when shopping for an A6 4.2 or S6 for that matter?
I just leased an '08 A6 3.2, and spent a lot of time considering the E350. The MB is a great car and is cheaper to lease than Audi even with a much higher MSRP.
Despite Audi being more expensive to lease (due to lower resid), I went with Audi for 2 reasons:
The E-class is starting to look outdated, with a redesign on the horizon for MY2010.
And, the interior of the Audi is much nicer and driver-oriented (sportier). Most importantly, the electronics technology (MMI, Nav) seems to be lightyears ahead of the antiquated MB Comand system. While the MB is a great option, at the end, I just had a hard time "settling" on a 2008 benz with interior electronics that are years behind the Audi interface. I had a BMW 5-series before and the Audi interior and electronics are much more intuitive than i-drive as well.
Hope that helps!
