OK. We're at 39.5K for mileage. Brakes are the original. Trying a new service center and they quoted me around $900 for the front and $700 for the back. I knew it was going to be big....but not that big. Wow.

This is from the dealer, correct? If you have a good indy VW/Audi shop in your area you should be able to get the parts and labor price down at least 35% or more.

I realize everyone's mechanical aptitude is different and also access to the proper tools vary but this truly is a very easy DIY job. I've done two complete rotor/pad replacements on Q7's now and there is nothing complicated about this procedure at all. As has been mentioned, you do need a 16mm triple square (12 point) tool plus a cheater bar to remove the rear caliper assembly, but the rest is all standard tools. Good luck because $1600 is just plain criminal.

Can someone post a photo of the 16mm Triple Square tool and where to buy it?
Just want to get ready for it when the day comes. Have done brake jobs on other vehicles but new to Audi.
Do you remove the caliper completely off the mounting, or can you remove one caliper bolt and swing it up like on the Corvette to put in the new pads? Thanks in advance.
