Default Brock Yates - 1985 Audi Cannonball Quattro

A few years ago I noticed a lot of curiosity in the 1985 Brock Yates Audi Cannonball Quattro. Since it is reaching 29 years of ownership I felt obligated to post photos of the car. It is everything you can imagine from an 1985 Quattro but more. In its day I called it the Porsche Eliminator. Below is a list of the original modifications. This particular vehicle is Cannonball number 11. Only 12 units were created and distributed out of Brumos Porsche Audi in Jacksonville Florida. The idea was developed by Bob Snodgrass and Brock Yates. The results….a piece of Audi History when Audi was the two time world rally champion. Enjoy a stroll thru memory lane. Yes it still runs and occasionally still eats a Porsche or two. Thanks Pat Pilcher for selling me this amazing automobile.

Default So it IS YOU!!!

Art,
Funny how 25+years affects the memory. I was surfing Audi World for some parts for my Allroad when I wrote you about your Cannonball car. I hadn't seen another post you evidently placed describing the details of the car and the actual purchase. So...I didn't put it together that I in fact was who sold you your Cannonball Quattro since you now live in the Pacific Northwest and our dealings were back in Atlanta. How long have you lived in Seattle? I love that part of the country and it is the perfect place to have a car like that.

You'll be interested in knowing that I've had the following Audi's since working at Brumos:
'84 4000 Q
'87 4000 Q--I set this car up somewhat like the Yates cars--grey leather sport seats, Koni/Bilstein suspension, Momo Star wheels, Euro lights and lenses, upgraded stereo and exhaust. I hated parting with that car but moved to Florida and both kids were little--replaced with an AWD Aerostar--not even close to being fun to drive...but two car seats and all our gear made holiday/vacation trips much easier.
'92 100S 5speed
'95 90 Sport Q
'95 S-6 Avant--which I've now owned since '98 w/16K miles and will never part with--taught both kids how to drive a stick on this and it still has the original clutch! Great car.
'01 Allroad--my first and only automatic--have had since '04 and now have 160K relatively trouble free miles. This is a perfect car for Colorado and I've taken it to places where many Jeeps fear to tread. (Glad that's out of the system before i did any serious damage.)

I am also involved in a Vintage Race Restoration business called RaceKraft and Design here in Colorado. Check out our website racekraftdesign.com.
Holler back sometime and get me caught up with your life. Again, really cool that we crossed paths on this site. Audi's get in the blood.

Pat,
the photos are located under Albums. I couldn't figure out how to offer the photos with the written description. So good to hear from you and that you have stayed in the AUDI Family!!! I suppose those that have been offered to drive an Audi would simply not opperate a performace car without their 4 wheel drive system. Although mine is still manually engaged it still is a load of fun it the snow and rain. Tends to push on the turns but once you get use to drifting and realize you won't hit the rail your fear turns into a huge smile. True my vehicle is a little underpowered but it is still fun to drive. Best time of all was doing the cloverleaf at 285 and 85 in Atlanta. Our own little race track until they redesigned the entire intersection. Glad to see you are into the car still and hope we can reconnect soon!!!

I recently picked up #1 out of the 12. It had not run in more than 15 years and we are in the process of making it road worthy again.

Here is a video I made about it -
