FWIW, here's my take on the new TT...
I guess you'd have to drive one to understand what the car is really about, but my initial impressions are:
The good...
The design remains mostly faithful to the original concept.
Pricing didn't seem to change much.
We've been asking for a pop-up spoiler.
69% aluminum structure should save weight and increase speed and economy.
Magnetic ride damper system is interesting.
New Bluetooth phone and updated navigation systems should be a plus.
Driving lights look good.
What I don't like...
Front end looks too long.
Rear design looks awkward and out of place.
Interior is a big step down from the original design. Looks like Kia's attempt to copy a TT.
No quattro for 4 cyl TT? Why not?
Don't care for the crease on the lower part of the doors.
Not as aggressive or sporty as I had hoped for.
Looks like many different individuals designed different parts of the car. Not entirely cohesive.
Long-winded and boring speeches at the unveiling wasted a portion of my life that I can never reclaim.

design feels derivative, BMW-ish or Japanese. Interior not 'architectural' like the Mk I
What made the Mk I special from a design standpoint was that the interior looked like a piece of sculpture or architecture. On his first ride, a friend said, "hey this car should be in Architectural Design Quarterly." I can't imagine that being said of the Mk II interior... it's too derivative and hardly distinguishable from the A3 or A4.
The interior also looks too fussy to me, but I'm often slow to take to redesigns...
