Thanks Justin, hadn't thought about those sensors (yes, my car has them). Did some tests to make sure that the hitch and tube bumper wouldn't trigger them, but hadn't thought about towing. Looking at those wiring guides though, it's no clear which circuit puts those sensors into tow-mode. Seems like as long as I hook them up to something, would operate just the same as if I was using the stock connector. No?

The sensors are disabled via a very small switch inside the socket on the car, not via any of the 13 pins in the connector. So when you connect the mating plug, it trips the switch and tells the car there is a trailer connected. This is why I think that switch could be replaced and relocated elsewhere and be manually activated, but I don't know if anyone has done that.

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. Might just mount a little switch back there, as it would be easy to flip when hooking-up a trailer. Just can't see any reason to keep that Audi connector that I'm never going to use, only to have to purchase adapters for more common connectors.

This sounds perfect for my needs. Thanks much for doing this Justin. I have a 2003 Allroad. How do I get a hitch? Please reply offline. Thanks.

To anyone that is interested in a hitch, just send me an email to allroadhitch at gmail dot com.
