The SQ5 has quite large 15" (380mm) front rotors which will likely clear just about all 18" wheels. The issue is the incredibly bulky caliper. It's like a fat brick strapped against the rotor and sticks out perpendicular and parallel to the rotor for several inches in both directions. There are people who have had 19" wheels not clear them based on offset and spoke design. Yes spacers are an option but it's much easier and safer for us to give fair warning than to say 18's fit.

I know I am bumping an old thread, but I just purchased a new SQ5 yesterday and I am looking for a winter wheel and tire. Tirerack is indicating that an 18" wheel will fit and I am looking at this one.

I did talk to them and they indicated that if the wheel doesn't fit, they will take it back and refund the shipping charges as it would be their fault and not mine. Rather than doing this, I was curious if anyone has actually tried a set of 18x8 ET 35 on an SQ5.

Thanks.

Default 18" fit

Ok, so I am answering my own question. I decided to trust Tirerack and I ordered the 18x8 BBS SR Anthracite as well as some 255/55R-18 Michelin Latitude X-Ice Xi2 snow tires. Ordered yesterday around noon, they showed up today shipped from Nevada to Washington state, talk about fast. Just mounted the front tire/wheels to check for clearance. It is tight but they do fit. This on on brand new pads, so the clearance should get better once they wear.

Total damage on the wheels/tires was just over $1800 + shipping, not too bad, 19" or 20" were quite a bit more money and a lot less selection. Personally, I value snow & ice traction over dry performance and chose to go with studless snows vs. a performance winter tire such as the Alpin PA's.

I ordered 18's as well with Blizzacks, did a test fit at my local tire store and fits as well...will be putting them on in a month or two...I too value the snow and ice traction over dry during the winters here in Canada. There will be lots of time to play with my 21" summer's. :-)

Why not 235/60? For winter, less width = better grip.

Sorry, I had to cite hilld. He says: "Ok, so I am answering my own question. I decided to trust Tirerack and I ordered the 18x8 BBS SR Anthracite as well as some 255/55R-18". My question was to him - why not 235/60?

I got the first set installed on my 2015 this weekend, so I figured I'd chime in. My SQ5 has the 21" summer wheels. For the winter set, I went with relatively cheap 20" ASA GT5s and the not-so-cheap Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds. Even though I'm in NY, I generally don't have to drive in snow unless I want to, and was mainly looking for a tire that liked the cold weather and wouldn't mind getting chewed up a little by the salt and gravel that always seems to be around during the winter.

Had a small issue with one of the valve stems on one of the wheels that I think we corrected, but otherwise they seem to be doing okay. Definitely more comfortable on rough roads, but fast cornering seems a little bit softer. Tons and tons of brake clearance. Probably the best I could have hoped for.

Don't know if this helps, I had bought Dunlop Winter 3D 275-35-21 to fit on my 21".

They were recommended by the Audi dealer, though its still weird to have wider tires for winter than the OEM garbage Pirellis.
