Default Transmission Slipping When Turning

I have a 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro with 240K miles.. Today it started slipping every so often when i would turn corners and get into the throttle a bit... My plan is to drive it a few more months and then sell it for parts.. Looking forward to an A4 2003 with 70K miles on it.. Anyhow, I want to see if the transmission fluid is low and if it is add some.. is there anyway to check and fill... I am sure I can drive it gingerly... Look forward to your thoughts.. MC

Default Trans fluid

If you look at the trans pan, you will see a drain plug towards the middle of the pan and a larger allen head plug that looks like it is recessed towards the rear of the pan. The larger plug is the check/fill plug. You have to remove the check/fill plug while the engine is running and the trans is in park with the transmission fluid at a specific temperature according to a scan tool. The vehicle must be level while you are checking the fluid too. This sounds difficult but it really isn't. Normally a dipstick goes down into the pan to check the fluid but Audi (and many other manufacturers) use a plug that sticks up into the pan at the correct level. Therefore, if the fluid level is correct, it will just slowly drip out of the ckeck plug with the vehicle running in park with the transmission warmed up. If it is low, use a suction tool to push fluid up into the pan until it starts to drip out of the fill/check plug. Remember that the fluid must be at a specific temerature. If you don't have a scan tool to check the temperature, drive the car for about 5 miles to warm it up. That should be close enough to get a reasonable reading.

Whoa whoa whoa. Slow down on immediately assuming it's the transmission, please read the symptoms on this page: http://www.blauparts.com/audi/audi_d...pair_kit.shtml

I have the same issue (still), got it diagnosed by the audi dealer (long story because i never bring my car there) and their official diagnosis is "Front center driveshaft joint failed/noisy. Needs new center driveshaft assembly. New shaft $1870.00...Used shaft $741.00". So you can see why I still have the issue. Haven't done much about it except have been driving gingerly, will fix it eventually.
