Default yes the 245's will look swollen and won't protect the rim any better since...

...the tire itself is stronger and handles impact better when the sidwalls are straight

Default actually the increased rolling diameter isn't ...

... a very big problem since all Audis (and I think most other cars) have the speedo set to show a little higher speed then what you are actually driving.
the treadwidth is all wrong tho'

Yes, but in this case the diameter is significantly larger.

Default 235/40>>>

If you look at my sig pic that is what you see but will advise you that different manufacturers tire sizing doesn't always translate into same profiles/widths etc. So for my tire size noted it is for S03s

Default it wouldn't be ideal but it would work

it wouldn't do any harm to the car, but the speedo would be off

Didn't say it wouldn't work, nor did I say it would harm the car or the rim. I agree with you

Default I've got 225 S03's on 8.5's-->

Tires have worn very well (quiet also for directionals) so far (I don't push the heck out of it though). As noted below, S03's do have a bit more cross section than some others, thus don't look "stretched" on wheel. They are correct 25" in overall diameter; I have considered going to 235's when these need replacement because they are only .2" more in overall diameter. Many brands spec their 235's at 25.4", so check Tirerack's spec tables before you go oversize.
NO WAY with 245/45's! They'll fit perfectly on the rims but they're too tall.
