Default What cleans Chrome window trim?

The chrome window trim on my car looks dull and is spotted with this white stuff. I've done a lot of searching but would like to know if anyone can confirm what cleans these up for good. I've tried rubbing compound (didn't work) Ice (worked somewhat but not like new). I had a 9 yr old car prior and the chrome was like new, this car is 7yrs old and chrome looks horrible. Thanks

If the white stuff is topical, it could be some kind of contaminant like overspray, tar, industrial fallout, bird droppings, brake dust, or tree sap. I would use a Clay Bar. If its is in the chrome, an abrasive polish will be needed.

Rubbing compound is the last thing I'd try. The Audis have a soft coating over the trim assuming it hasn't been rubbed away. Whatever you try, go easy on it. It can be a challenge to restore it and keep it looking good. Seems water spot pretty bad.
