Default Big mess after battery replacement

Happy new year to all of you.

About a week ago, my battery died and tried to jump and didn't budge so I bought a brand new battery and replaced it myself. After wards, car started but I think it messed up some electronic crap. Now my MMI is completely shut down with display stuck open. Sometimes, car won't even start, it doesn't even crank. I give some time and try it and it's hit or miss.

What do I do now?? I really don't want to take it to stealership.

Any advice??

Well first off, the new battery has to be recoded via VCDS cable. Try turning off the ignition and turn it back on and hold down the volume button to see if the mmi comes on. How long have you had your new battery in there?? Does anything else not work??

Only problem I can see is that jump start. What was it? Just another car and cables or some buster from a shop?

Default Maybe something simple...

There is a little wire that fastens to the positive battery post under the 10mm nut you have to undo. Did you reconnect that wire, or did it get broken?

If I recall right from some other posts, that wire ties into the power management module and thus would be important. If the car does not see the battery as correctly charged, it will shut down things it views as less important. MMI is among them; it also shuts down keyless entry very early on (if you have that) as another clue. Along the way, it also sheds the remote key locking, though not as early as the keyless entry.

I hope that MP is right but I am a bit more pessimistic. There is another guy around with burnt modules after a buster start at a body shop.

Yeah, lets hope its that little wire... That little guy gets in the way with a battery swap.

Sorry, I was out of town and just got back. I'll try to look at the wire tomorrow if possible. I left my car at my parents house while I'm using my dad's car.

Hopefully, it's something simple.

Default Jump started off the 'jumper posts' presumably?

My experience is that with an incorrectly coded battery, you'll get all sorts of issues, such as those you describe.. Do you have, or have access to, VCDS? If not, you may be on the way to the dealer for a recode... search for battery threads on here.

3 months I replaced my battery and did not code it.
Now when the car stays 1 week then my alarm led's in the car shut down, so I knew some electronics go down, the new battery don't have a BEM code so I took the BEM code from a know brand which is in the list when open with VCDS, no problems anymore...
