Detailed Installation Instructions for the Speed Sensor in a '99 A6 quattro?
#11
Fortunately replacing the speed sensor seems to have fixed my fluctuating speedometer & the abismal gas mileage problem I was having (5mpg). Bought part off eBay for $17.80. Timing belt kit from Blauparts was installed (I had over 90,000 miles on the previous belt). The one I replaced showed very little wear, but I didn't want to chance it by running it further, so I opted to replace it now. I'm approaching 190,000 miles on the odometer. I bought it with only 47K miles in 2005.
This is my 2nd timing belt kit (1st at 97,000'). Also replaced the front & rear shocks with some purchased in 2010 from Germanautoparts.com . That's been a Great decision! I think Borge & Sachs were the mfg, but don't quote me on that. Replaced right front wheel bearing, too. As well as, inner and outer tie rod ends. Oh yeah, replaced secondary air pump (twice) with a used OEM unit from a parts car. I think the Blauparts kit cost $340. Installation $300. $80 to install new (used) SAP & install speed sensor. All seems good for now. Hopefully no mechanical problems for the next 100,000 miles! Here we go...
