Default Need more power.

Anyone ever done a 2.8 to 1.8T swap? Looking for more power and wanted to know if anyone has ever done one. Mine is a 96 FWD with 98k, and I'm looking for a newer 1.8T to swap in. I figure I can build it while it's out of the car, and that's a plus. Any advice/tips/suggestions appreciated.

Default i think your best bet is to sell your car and buy a 1.8! but if you must...

then look for a wreck and get all the parts you need in one package. you'll need things like the front wiring harness, trottle setup etc. best found on wreck. also suspension may need changing due to weight change.

Default I know it will be a pain...

and I know what I need to do it, just wanted to know HOW MUCH of a pain. Can't complain when you find an Audi for a great price.

Default I haven't, but I know someone who did....

It's a straight bolt in. You'll want to make sure you get a non-DBW setup (97-99.5)

I don't know all the details, but the mounts and trans bolt right up.

The 1.8T is lighter than the 2.8, so you may need to get some aftermarket springs/shocks to compensate.

Default Hmmm, what about a 2.7T? =)

That would be sweet if you kept it stock looking for the full sleeper effect, heh.

How much is a 2.7T vs the 1.8T? I'm sure it's substantial.
