Default engine oil question...

All right, here's a dumb question about changing/replacing oil.

So I'm about 4,000 kms (2,500 miles or so) away from my next service visit, which is covered by Audi Care. However, I recently got the message on my MMI saying my oil level is approaching minimum level, and to add oil, "max 1L, you may continue driving to service".

A few questions, since I know jack all about this:

1. How much longer can I realistically drive before adding oil? I've probably driven about 25 kms so far, and the message continues but the oil level hasn't dropped yet. I'm not intentionally doing it, just haven't had a chance to go in yet.
2. Is this likely covered by Audi Care? Does this just mean I should bring it to the dealer and accelerate my service visit to today rather than wait the next few thousand kms?
3. If not to #2, should I just buy some engine oil and add it myself, and if so, what brand and how much oil considering my service is due soon?

Thanks very much!

Stop by the dealer and have them add .5L of oil and be done with it.

Don't bother wasting time with the dealer. Go buy a quart of the correct oil (make sure it meets the VW/Audi specs) and pour 1/2 of it into your engine to hold you over until your oil change. Bringing your car to the dealer for a top-up is a waste of time.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the dealer won't do it as part of my Audi Care package and that I should NOT accelerate my service appointment just to address the lack of oil.

Which oils would you recommend from that list if any? I have no idea which of those quality standards is correct for the S5, or are all of them?

Jeandelli, thanks for the idea... didn't realize they'd do that for free. I just called them and they said absolutely bring it in and they'll do a free top up in between service, in and out in 10 minutes.

Thanks again for the advice!
