using optional transmission dip stick
Hello fellow Audi lovers/sufferers. I recently purchased my 5th Audi since 1990. This is my second 1990 V8 Quattro and I sold my first one to my son. (yes, I do like him). My question is simple. This 1990 V8 has the optional transmission dip stick, however, there is no explanation I can find anywhere about checking the fluid level with the car running or turned off. Can anyone help ?

Running in park check fluid level. But dont check it after driving it on the highway. Fluid will be too hot and may trick you into thinking its overfull. Same with if the fluids still like 30 or 40 degrees it may appear low. So fluid temp around 70-90F is about right for checking.

Thanks for the information. I checked it with the engine off, cold and it looked to be about an inch above the top of the black plastic part. It's hot now so I'll check it later or after a little warm up in the morning. I appreciate your help.
