We have different headlights than the Germans do.
I appologize in advance if this was posted b4.
Has anyone notice that the german version of the TT has a tiny light bulb in their hi-beam light, a city light.
Do the germans still have better headlights? My 89 200 has the worst headlight in the HISTORY of lights.
Anyone put a citylight in there, looks pretty slick. I have pics, if PP worked, I would post it.
JasonC

Re: We have different headlights than the Germans do.
Jason,
The headlamps used in Europe are different than what we have on our vehicles in the US. The reason being that there are two different standards, European headlamps must meet an ECE standard as opposed to our SAE/DOT standard in the US. The standards differ for the most part in the amount of light that is available in different areas of the headlamp's projected light pattern (ECE lamps project a lot of light to the right side of the road and have a very distinct cut off as opposed to our somewhat fuzzy pattern).
The city light that you mention is a requirement in Germany. Many newer German cars have a provision for a city lamp bulb (BMW E46) which can easily be tied in to your parking lamp circuit.

And we don't have the bright left tail light...
...previous Audis had the brighter left-side tail light that would come on with the fogs. It looks strange until you come up on one in the fog on the autobahn, then you understand why.

Don't think it can be done given the nature of the integrated rotary switch for the lights...
...but I'm not sure and I don't want to be the first to wreck the switch experimenting.
And I'd actually just prefer just the fogs to come on (ala: daytime running lights) and have no other marker lights - my brother rewired the relay on his A4 and was able to do that, but he still has to switch them on manually each time. He's gonna wire it so that they some on and off with the ignition and can be overridden by the dash switch.
