My 2010 has 3 settings: 0=off, 5=low or little heat and 6=warm.

I've heard that before and I've always wondered if it is a full leather vs. Alcantara thing. Because I have Alcantara and 6 definitely gets hot, 3 is comfortable, or useful I like to say, and 1 & 2 are barely noticeable.

I am surprised to learn the 2013 only has three real settings though.

I have Alcantara with the 3 position and I miss the 6 position I had on my 09. 3 is very hot and 2 isn't very hot at all, I wish there were some more options. What I don't miss though is having to go into the MMI to adjust the seat heaters, it's a lot easier with a simple push button.

In my allroad I like to set the passenger set to 6 and then put my takeout on it so that it stays warm on the ride home.

My seat heart button lights up and then shuts completely off after 30 seconds. Passenger seat works fine? Easy fix?

Our '13 Q5 seat heaters do the same thing. I called Audi to see if disabling the roll back from 3 to 2 was possible and was advised it was not. No real reason given. Had 3 other Audi's and the barrel switch was perfect. Set it and leave it. I hate this "feature". We had a MBZ that did this too. Hate it.
