Adding wheels with a lip (LM style rims) to my 2003 S8
Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I have a 2003 S8 and would like to change my rims out to an LM style rim that has about an inch lip. I'd like to know if modifications are required and if they are, will it compromise the drivability? I feel like these classic rims fit the best for the classic D2 shape. I've talked to a couple of wheel places and they say that it is not doable but I thought I'd try this forum before I look for an alternative. I also plan to go to a 19" rim with 40 series tires. Any help or thoughts will be much appreciated. Thanks!

First of all, welcome to the forum.
I used this when I bought my 20" wheels.

Besides matching overall tire height and bolt pattern of the stock 245/45-18, the most important will be the offset. Front control arms are very close, but you'll find you can fit a multitude of sizes on the D2.
I run 255/35-20 on D3 S8 OEM 20x9 wheels and fit is perfect. I believe some on here have run 265 or 275 mm widths on 10" rims with success.
As far as tires go, this may be your most important decision. Poor tires will give a poor ride. I went with the Continental DW and the ride is comparable to the stock setup, in my opinion. So far, they're the quietest tire I've ever had. You'll pay more for 19s (and 17s) than you will for 20s (and 18s), the biggest downside. IMO, 19s and 20s both look great on the D2. I feel like I have plenty of rubber on the road.

Thanks S8ilver! I'll check out that website and look at working with the offsets more since that was the problem with the LM style. Your wheel looks like a good fit for your S8! I'm surprised that you mentioned that your ride feel of the 20" is similar to that of the stock 18". It's good to know. Much appreciated!
