Default Re: If I were a respected advertising executive

"Is anyone here a Chief Scientist for an oil company?"

Scott thinks he is. Ask him. Don't forget to don your full length rain slicker.

Default Exxon/Mobil took the position...

...that auto companies should not tell them how to make or market their fuels...despite having a product that exceeds the standard.

Default warranty LAW trumps a mfgs attempt to ...

usurp them...

you might want to consider that also...

Default Print that out and give it to your service advisor.

Show him your Alum pen. I'm sure you'll be covered then, no sweat.

Default My naphtha blending story

My company has 7 chief ecientists, but I'm not one of them. Our CEO calls them the magnificent 7. We call them the 7 wonders of the world.

I am fuels scientist though. Back in my operations days at a different major, we had a bit of a problem...

I worked in the hot ends section of a steam cracker, and we had a tank of cracked naphtha off spec on durene. We were attached to a major refinery, where we got feedstocks (liquids anyway) and sent off our fuel blendable co-products. Durene is a gum former and there's a spec. The refinery could have blended it off and still made spec, but they stuck to their quality procedure.

We were getting nervous about what to do with that tank, and we couldn't recrack it. Then our feed coordinator came in and saved the day. He said to pump it into the B-line across the river to the Citgo blending terminal, as they'd agreed to buy it. And, they do 100 times less volume than the refinery.

There is a difference, and it's not only additives.
