Default XM Radio

I just bought an '03 225 coupe (red over vanilla, 10k miles) that came with a Clarion DXZ745 head unit, a kenwood amp, JBL speakers and a JL subwoofer. I really dislike the Clarion because the sound for CD seems poor and the buttons are impossible to use while driving. I am thinking of replacing it with a Nakamichi unit which is much higher quality than the Clarion but which is not XM ready. If I want XM, would the portable device be a good choice with the Nakamichi or would I be better off getting a lesser quality piece like Alpine which is XM ready and have the XM tuner and antenna installed? If I did the Alpine, where does the XM stuff go? Comments appreciated.

Default Have you been satisfied with the sound of the CD on your head unit?

Is it at least as good as the stock unit? Thanks scott

Default Honestly I don't listen to CDs, all my music is on iPod >>

but as a test I did load a CD in the HU and yes it sounds much better than the stock unit.

Default Suggest you check out Alpine units. I just did an Alpine IVAD900 which...

you can find great buys on ebay.

Why you think Alpine makes crap is beyond me.

In my system I have the HU installed obviously where. This unit has a brain unit that stands vertically behind the front seat. I have the navigation player on the floor behind the passenger seat. The XM modules (Terk) and the iPod module are mounted where the stock CD player use to be.

It is possible that you could mount the Terk XM boxes behind the passenger side dash or in the passenger foot well panel on the right and the ipod module can go where the UK models put the fuse panel (passenger side, opposite of where the US fuse panel is located.

Another potential location is where the medical kit is supposed to be.

There are a couple more hiding spots, but for what you are doing, you don't need.

Hope this helps.
