Default Car dies suddenly...

Was wondering if anybody has any feedback on my issue...about two weeks ago, my ABS, brake, and oil light would appear on my dash, then my ASR light would come on and the tachometer (rpms) would drop to zero. The car would still run...just these lights would appear. Someone recommended I disconnect the battery and see if that would reset the codes and maybe solve the problem, so I did, now my car idles rough and dies at a stoplight after about 10 minutes of driving. Anybody have any idea what may be going on? I have a '99 FWD Automatic 2.8. Note that it didn't die until after I disconnected and reconnected the battery. Thanks for any and all help.

Default After you disconnect the battery you need to perform the throttle body adaptation

Your car has to relearn proper idle. The dying problems will go away after a little while.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried that...from the manual's recommended 5 seconds all the way to 10 minutes, but still the same result.

Default It takes around a minute for the adaptation to take place

however there are two ways of performing it. One is to simply leave the key in the on position and the engine not started. You'll hear the throttle body move as it adapts. However this method does not reset all the settings. A better method is to perform it with a VAG, which resets every setting.

Bottom line is, if you already performed a simple adaptation, drive the car a little more. Drive a bit and then stop and let the idle stabilize, then drive some more. The idle should come back to stable within half hour of doing this. If it doesn't they you definately still have a problem.

Thanks again...the problem has persisted for about four days already, so I'm not sure if that will help. For the adaptation, do you have to press on the gas when you turn it in the on position? I thought I have read that somewhere.

No, quite the opposite, do not touch the throttle or it will not complete successfully

Nope, that didn't do it...
