Default #2 Diesel vs B5 Diesel

Is there a preference between these two fuels (is one 'better' for the TDI)? Local Costco started selling diesel and is regular #2..The price is way lower than other local stations which I believe are all B5..Not sure if that is just costco buying power or without the B5 it is just less costly to make?

The biodiesel blend is typically more $$$, at least in my area.

We just purchased 2015 Audi Q5 TDI. User manual clearly states that biodiesel must not be used for this engine.

double check that…straight bio diesel is a no no (e.g. former french fry oil)…20% Bio is OK in 'some states' = those that require it…5% Bio is OK per Audi/VW.

#2 Diesel is somewhere between 5 and 25 cents cheaper than 87 Octane.

Around here (using Gas Buddy) the difference is between 90 cents and a dollar per gallon.

Apologies SJGQ5.

Around here I see OFF-ROAD, #1 and #2 Diesel. I know that OFF-ROAD and #1 are cheaper. OFF-ROAD is made fro the Farmers around here. Believe that #1 is just low sulfur Diesel. I also know that the Army (from my experience) uses JP8 for their diesels as well as for their aircraft turbine engines.

I know they aren't for my car, so I stay away from them. I don't see B5 Diesel here at all, or haven't seen it.

As for prices, #2 Diesel was higher than 91 Octane here over the summer, so being lower than 87 Octane is a HUGE savings for me. Especially since I drive between 400-1000 miles each week.

#2 is just highway diesel, doesn't say anything about bio content (it'd be like saying "is gas or E10 better").

Around here, all #2 is a B5 blend, can't get around it. One thing to keep in mind is the ULSD has lower lubricity than the old high-sulfur formulation from what I've read, and the bio helps raise that back up a bit. Too much bio is bad, though, unless your system's been set up for the different properties of biodiesel (at which point you'd probably need to avoid B0).

So personally given the choice I'd probably prefer the B5 over the B0 unless the B0 had other additives that made its properties better (or you just really didn't care about extra engine wear).

Oops, sorry. I've just ordered my TDI and am still learning about the various diesel "flavors". There don't seem to be many (if any) B5 retailers in my neck of the woods.
