But are they VIN related? I know the different tranny model #'s are on them.

I doubt they're VIN related, but I can check next week if it's really a concern.

You can go to jail for that......j/k..I don't believe the early european cars had any VIN connection between body and engine/driveline except for the type of engine/trans setups. I assume you're getting at the " matching numbers" type of statements affecting US cars, Corvettes, Mustangs, GTO's etc. Dwight would probably have the best answer to this though.

Default Pretty sure my 4KQs VIN is on a dash plate

but its under 2 feet of snow right now so I have to look at it later. There are part numbers stamped on the tranny and diff but they are not serialized - they do match to VIN number ranges however. The 85-87s are pretty much one set of driveline parts. The 84 4KQs have some minor differences (some folks state the gear ratios are different but I have not seen that in writing as to where - ie diff ratios or the tranny's gears) and a different center lock bowden cable and I think the rear half shafts are different. There is also a way to decode the VIN as to model, year, production date, options, serial number. If interest I can probably find the URL
