thanks. if that is the only code being thrown on my car do you think when replaced i should be able to pass inspection even though i have a test pipe and no cat. i am from ny

I doubt you would pass emissions, also >>>
I'd bet as soon as you replace sensor 1, you'll start to get codes and a check engine light related to either the cat or sensor 2. The car will know the cat is not working properly (or not there) because it compares the values from the 2 sensors to see if the cat is working properly, it will see little or no change and set a code. I probably skips this if sensor 1 is bad.

That's all well and good but...
When they check your emissions I doubt it would pass with out the cat. Also, they may fail you if they happpen to notice that the cat is missing. I used to work in a shop and did NY inspections, and we would never have missed a non-existant cat.
You can always take a chance and see what happens, maybe you'll get lucky. All you really have to lose is the cost of the inspection.
