I'm thinking of getting one, but I here lots of people say yes you can run one, and lots saying no you cant. What to do? and What kind is the best to run?

Thanks...

Default Your car uses a MAF that requires recirculation.

You can't do that with a typical BOV. Why would you want to? There is no advantage to a BOV, the only possible explanation is for the blow off sound. You want to risk damage for a ricey sound?

There are some hybrids that will allow you to recirc, GFB for one, or you could do a metal body BPV (Bailey, Forge, Strat) and run a cone intake which will get you the blow off sound.

Default Only reason to go with a bov is

if your running so much air out of a big turbo and you end up getting compressor surge when you go to shift with a standard bpv. The bad thing about the bov and a hybrid like the GFB is that when you shift the car dumps fuel out the exhuast and when I mean dumps I am talking 9:1. If you would like I can show you logs that I have with the wide band that shows how the car goes rich during and after a shift. I would not suggest this for anyone running a cat or for street driving.

Default but remember it makes that cool woosh sound

and who cares about a $1200 catalyst when you can make that sound.

I still dont even understand the obsession with that sound.

Default Actually it only makes that sound during full boost and then letting off for a shift.

At lower boost levels the bov makes a duck sound like its being ran over by a few sets of tires which I cant stand. The wooosh sound can be had by just installing a metal bpv and a cone filter.

Default you can run one... but why would you want to?

There are reasons why vehicles were made with or without one.. and why you never seen one car sold with a BOV.

Think about that for a second.

Default I ran the Forge bov for ~7500 miles...

car ran great...better response than the TT valve, and it actually seemed to build a tad more boost...

I took it out last week becuse I'm audi assured and the car is going in for service and I don't want anything voiding my warranty...funny thing is I freaking broke my TT valve on the way to an auto-x today so my car was running like crap with a huge boost leak...and you shouldn't run your car with a bov?!?

I'll sell you my forge bov for $100 + shipping...

Default stick with what the system uses, BPV, my friend has a hybrid and he ran a 17.9 1/4.

he has an exhaust, neuspeed chip, and hybrid bov. he has a tip and ran 17.9 in tip and 17.8 in auto. still cant figure out how he ran those numbers but he did. the bov?? i dont know, nor does he. he says he has it set correctly. the car is designed to use a closed loop turbo system with a bpv so leave it the way it is. if you want the bov sound get a cone filter intake and a piston type bpv. my 2c
