2.8 Intake

2.8 Intake
Hey guys, I've been looking at the EVO intake and was wondering if anyone has one installed it on their car and what you think of it? I did the exhaust first and am going to order the GIAC ecu chip and was wondering if the EVO intake was worth the money or if I should just stick with a drop in pannel filter. Also I have read a few posts about a "velocity stack". Where do you get these and are they much better than the EVO intake? It seems that the 1.8T drivers dont have much love for the EVO because of turbo heat. What do you 2.8 drivers think? Would I be better of spending the money on a TIP chip rather than an intake? Just trying to spend my $ wisely. Thanks for you help.

get the lltek intake, its better than an evo
it comes also with an heat shield, and defenitely gets more pull and power on the low end. However, gains are mostly noticed after 60mph as you can feel that the car pulls stronger. defenitely worth it, better than an tip chip and the sound is aggressive and awesome

I like the Evo Intake I got for my 2.8. It came with a heat shield too.
Combined with my Brullen Cat-back exhaust and GIAC Chip, my car pulls much harder now and has a a good growl when it's at WOT.

Re: get the lltek intake, its better than an evo
After hitting up both websites it looks like both of thee intakes are very similar. The EVO is priced a little higher but you get a break if you buy it with the chip. I saw that both come with heatshields. Does the lltek have a larger diamater, or do you think that they are both probably going to preform about the same?

That's what I'm looking for. No check engine lights or anything with the chip and intake? I'm ready to order something soon. I'm definately getting the CIAC chip I just need to pick an intake. Right now I'm running the stock 2.25 pipe with the center resonater removed with a chrome dual tip exhaust. Your Brullen exhaust probably sounds better.

Re: 2.8 Intake
They are the same thing. Either one isnt going to give you ideal intake charge. Bmc makes a Carbonfiber airbox that fits our cars and its an enclosed chamber that shields the air from heat, having a sealed intake just like stock. I have the Evo intake, and I've seen the lltek one.. same thing.. I have the evo for sale if you want it for cheap, I bought a BMC box..

Re: get a cda
I have a 99 2.8q and i've been researching intakes since I bought the car. I've seen what lltek has to offer and truthfully u can make that sh&t yourself. I'm about to order one of these cda's. The pic is a vw vr6 same engine as the 2.8 v6 only diff is that it is probably 12valve instead of 30. The money is almost the same +/-s/h. Cats that supercharge their rides recommend this intake. S/c is later on for me but I will definately start with a carbon dymanic.

Re: 2.8 Intake
WOW, that Carbon Dynamic BMC box looks pretty sweet. Any idea what the hp gain is? Probably better than the Lltek or Evo. Where is the best place to buy one? I am thinking that since this system is "sealed" you won't hear much of an intake sound. My exaust is loud enough that I'm not sure that I'd hear it anyway. I'll take power over sound anyday! Thanks to everyone for your helpful advice.
