Bluetooth Hans-free and streaming in a stock A4 B5 symphony
I had a request to post this. I have sold my Audi now, but wanted to share this. This will not be a great walk through of how I did this, but it will give you enough info to be able to do it.
I wanted bluetooth in my B5, but did not want to put in an aftermarket stereo. I had a symphony head unit. These stereos do not have an aux input, but do have a special speaker for phone calls and a microphone in the roof. I did use these.
Sine there was not an aux input I decided to tap into the CD changer input at the back of the stereo (I did not have a changer)input with a motorola T605 bluetooth car kit. Unfortunately the stereo would not accept input from the changer unless a CD changer is not only present, but sending data to the headset inicating that it also has a CD to play.
I overcame this by buying a cheap Audi CD changer on ebay for $50 and then I burned a blank CD (turned off the mic on my computer while the computer burned a CD). Now that I wired the T605 into the back of the stereo and had a CD changer with a blank burned 1 track CD the stereo would accept audio input from the T605.
The T605 also have an aux input jack for a 3.5 jack. I placed the jack in the blank button space next to the fog lights button. This works for music and phone calls just like bluetooth.
The T605 brain was placed on the passengers side under the dash. I placed it in the same area that the fuses would be but on the passengers side. I spliced into the existing Audi mic on the roof. Now phone calls are routed through the speaker on the drivers side door.
In the spirit of trying to stay OEM looking I placed the interface for the T605 on the side of the center console on the drivers side between the seat and console (slightly ahead of the seat so it could easily be accessed but not easy to be seen visually. It only has 5 buttons and is easy to use without looking at it.
I will try to find pics to post. If you have questions please feel free to ask. I am sorry this is not a very formal write up.
The AUX can be seen to the left of the hazard flasher button, and the T605 interface is the silver part on the left side of the center console.

So did i, i bought one of these on ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200855963...84.m1439.l2649
Stremas the bluetooth, plugs into the CD stacker port on the stereo, and the cd stacker plugs into this so you dont lose the functionality of the CD player. Have one in my Golf GTI as well. Works well.
