Default Radio Code?

New to Allroad, but got burnt before with A4's: Does the 2002 Allroad also (like my A4) require to re-enter a 'radio code' after disconnecting the battery? Last time, Audi charged 1/2 labor to look up and hand out the code (not written down by previous owner).

If so, I need to either
a) retrieve the code now and write it down
or, if not possible (VAGcom?)
b) ask previous owner if he by chance wrote it down somewhere.

I believe you still need it. There was one posting I saw a while back by someone who got the code for free by calling AOA.

There is also a 9volt adapter to keep the radio from loosing the code
