Rear driver side door handle problem
Folks, just seeking some advice or a brainstorming discussion which will hopefully explain the issue i recently started seeing with the car.
(The car has the intelligent key. )
If the car has been locked for a while and I unlock it, get in, start it, etc... When i attempt to open the rear driver side door from the outside - it appears as if the car is locked and doesn't open, even if the car is fully unlocked. In the meantime the other rear door opens fine. I can then make the door work by opening it from the inside and then the outside handle starts working fine even if that is the first door i try to open when the car is locked. The issue is only reproducible after the car has been locked for a while( i tried as soon as an hour after i locked it and was able to reproduce). However locking it with a key and immediately trying to reproduce doesn't reveal the issue.
Appreciate any pointers.

Thanks. Was the issue easily reproducible when you brought it into the dealership or does this issue leave error codes? Or did the dealer just take your word for it and replaced the motors?

Hi BayRidge -
Search for some posts by me (I can’t find them right now) about intelligent key and cell phone proximity. My car exhibits several flakey behaviors like this when my cell phone is in the same pocket (or a close-by pocket). Move the phone, and everything is fixed!

I don't have the intelligent key, just regular key and remote. Remote and interior switches would not activate the "lock-unlock" motors. Car has been out of warranty for some time. Dealer quoted me $ 750 per door. I had both doors done by an independent shop for $ 720. They used the genuine Audi parts (there are no aftermarket parts available).
