Thanks for the photo. Was it a spade-type fuse OR a thermal fuse (which is a bi-metal fuse inside a metal can that will reset when it cools down)?

Hmm...I am quite sure it should be a thermal fuse. 10 AMP seems low. That said, you might want to determine if there is an issue, i.e. dead short before going higher, like 15 Amp as per your photo.

Sometimes I get this problem but I simply adjust my wire, shuffling it from side to side usually does the trick!

Is there a common scenario here? Fuse? Wires?
Since it does not take an expert, I will answer. There are fuses under the plenum cover just in front of the windshield as well as the end of the dash panel. For this one, check under the hood for the most distant and hardest to reach fuse (the legend on the cover will confirm that it protects the lighter circuit.

This lighter socket is larger than the modern lighter/power sockets and is easily shorted if the power plug is allowed to **** slightly, which, of course, will send you back out to change that fuse.

Something from an '06 Audi should be new enough and retain the red lighting if you get the entire assembly of the lighter socket and plastic light surround. It will fit the hole perfectly, although you may have to modify your wiring for the plug. Just using generic insulated spade connectors is easiest.

I'll keep an eye out for a newer assembly as a future project. Meanwhile I have not had any trouble - I have run a GPS and charged my phone since. I think my AC inverter is going to stay in my wife's car though.

The picture you took shows a 15 amp specified for A5.
