here is how I did my street car.
Before. Both sides were the same

I took some stainless 16 Ga sheet metal for pressed it into a 90 degree and then cut it to fill the gap. Then welded it in. Its thicker than stock, but thats stronger. I figured this area is prone to rust so stainless is more protection. The whole area and underside is now POR-15'd with base and then "chasisblack" and then rubberized undercoat.

Had to eventually go all the way to the bottom of the door jamb with some wire stripping and spot welding.
The fenders we fixed with sheetmetal of same thickness and mig'd it in and then ground flush like body work repair. Spot holes were just mig filled. That way the fenders won't warp and there is minimal distortion.
