They don't burn so much oil after the pistons are replaced with large ones. Cheers and good luck.

I had this repair done on my 2008 A4 2.0T at 76,000 miles but the service writer told me that they just replaced the rings but I have more faith in you than a service writer. I was burning about a quart every 2500 miles. I just had my oil changed at 81000 and only 2.5 quarts came out of the motor, the oil light never came on. This would mean that I'm now "only" burning a quart every 2000 miles. I guess that's an improvement. I had cleaned my exhaust tips right after the work was done and they are black again already. I've heard of shops recommending the use of 15/40 Rotella full synthetic oil and changes every 3,000 miles. Is there any truth to this? Also, I've heard that Audi has been swapping in brand new motors and having the oil burners sent back to Germany for inspection, is this the case? I'm just really concerned that my consumption issue was only slightly improved and that the oil light never came on. Is that something that can be changed or turned off in VAGCom?

Correction: my oil consumption is now worse. Sorry, it was a long weekend and I'm still a little foggy.

It's possibly you have something else going on as well. Turbochargers can burn oil, and valve covers occasionally fail causing oil burning. The rings definately take care of the majority of the issue, but if you're saying you now burn 1qt in 2000 miles... well, that's pretty good.

Question Similar Buring Oil Problem every 1000-1200 miles

Hi Guys,

I am having a similar problem with my 2008 A4 2.0T as well. I purchased it with 39,912 miles and advised the Audi Dealer (Circle Audi) in Long Beach California that my car was excessively burning oil. The service advisor told me that it was pretty normal due to the turbo. Now, like previous posts, I have owned many other cars before and have NEVER seen this type of oil consumption even in my first car a 1981 Pontiac Grand Prix that actually had an oil leak. I advised the service advisor of this issue when I first bought the vehicle. I have completed the 35k, 45k, 55k, and 65k maintenance and it has not improved. At this point would Audi fix the issue as a manufacturers defect or would I be responsible to pay? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
