Default Stripped Power Steering "X" Plug Removal

I thought I would share with you the fun I had removing my stripped and overtorqued X plug.

I had to loosen the top hose off the pump so I could fit the pliers on the side of the plug. Fortunately it is somewhat thick and you can do it if you really put your mind to it, and tie the stupid coolant hose that is in the way. My vise grip pliers had a hex spot in the end of the tightening/loosening screw so I used an allen key to tighten it a little more after I had it clamped on securely.

And the tightening with drag-link and torque wrench. It is not very much pressure before the wrench clicks. Afterwards I retightened the hose fitting and I think I stripped it, even though I was only doing it to the same 37 ftlb. Fortunately no leaks and I wont be touching that again.

The only thing is that my brake light seems to come on more then before, but I am guessing that is because there is some air in the system.

Hope this can help someone else that is having a similar problem.

Good trick. Other people have used a cold chisel and a hammer in the right half of a groove to hammer it enough to loosen the plug. I had not seen anyone use a vice grip on it before.
