Default Has anybody tried Evans NPG waterless coolant?? Long!!

A friend of mine (major gearhead) is now using this in several of his cars, Corvettes. One of his friends is using it in his Jetta (with a 1.8 motor according to friend) and has about 10k miles on it so far.

As I understand it, fuel efficiency and horsepower increases as engine temps increase. The limiting factor being the boiling point of the coolant. In order to make use of this increase in engine temps a thermostat with a higher opening temp would be needed. Are these available for our engines?

Next Question - How would this increase in coolant temps affect the oil temps, since the oil cooler is cooled by the engine coolant running through it? Would this be a time to install an external oil cooler up front, or not worry and keep using quality syn oil??

Would different spark plugs be required, if so, hotter or cooler?

According to gear head, the jetta is running 87 octane with no knocking and zero degrees advance all the way through the power band.

Non-Aqueous Cooling

Default Evans recommends no thermostat to increase flow. Ext oil cooler is good idea

This stuff is for real, but expensive enough that I would only use it if a current detonation problem exists or if your setup points toward increased detonation due to head work, etc.. It is really deaigned to eliminate the hot spots in cylinder heads where the coolant boils off and creates barrier boiling. We did head work that took some material out and altho I have never detected knock, the potential exists when we put in a bigger turbo. Your comment on effeciency is right on, more power on less gas. The car will have higher water temps, but on my car this will be OK as the front mounted oil cooler never lets oil get hot anyway, even on very hot days and running hard. With a FM oil cooler it should never be a problem.

Default taking the t'stat out will increase the flow, but at the same time the engine will...

probably run cooler, defeating the effect of higher temps=more effiecent.
Just spitballing ideas here...
Right now the A4 is stock except for a chip, no problems w/pre-detonation.

Default Sounds like you dont need it then, it is insurance for highly tuned motors...

Evans will tell you that. Most cars have absolutely no need for this stuff, but if you run hi boost and have done head work to comb chamber or water passages then you DO need it. An engine run hard will get to upper temps with or without a thermo when run hard. Only downside is it will take longer to have heater come up 2 speed.

It is a waste for stock or nearly stock engines IMO.
