Default Could be a bad indicating system.....

You need a direct pressure reading gauge to verify the oil pressure, and to verify the indicating system could be bad...

Or troubleshoot the indicating system with the wiring diagrams, and hope it fix's it...

Default Re: Sensors....

there should be 2 oil pressure sensors one for idle and one for off idle. they have differnt bar ratings. the oil pressure sensors also tend to leak oil alot so check for that. they are located as shown in the previous post. if you dont have a mechanical gauge like in the picture you will have a loose wire hanging down there(the machanical guage was optional)Id bet on the sensors being bad. havent seen alot of oil pumps go bad on v6 12v engines. If you had a 1.8t thats a different story. those pumps go bad all the time.that oil pressure sensor located nearest to the radiator is a pain to get to i belive, the oil cooler and hoses are all in the way, makes it hard to get a wrench or socket in there

Default Re: internet repair - thanks

I was in big trouble with the oil pressure warning light. I stopped to use my car (A6 2.8 1995 230000 km) and took the train...! Hoppefully I read your explanations during the week end.
I checked with the help of the picture, and the sensor was effectively leaking.
I just change today and everythinng is OK for only $ 10. Thanks a lot.
