Rear Fog VAG-COM Help !
At the 5k mile service I am having my dealer do the coding for the rear fog (Euro switch installed). They called to say they cannot get it to work.
From a previous thread on this (I can use Search!):
"The bulb is installed (because it's part of your regular stop lamps), but the feature is disabled and will require a VAG to enable it. There are two bits to set:
Select 09 (Central Electronics)
Coding -> Function 07
Long Coding:
Byte 03 Bit 1 Rear Fog Lights (1 = 1 active / 0 = 2 active)
Byte 04 Bit 6 Rear Fog Lights deactivated"
They tried these two bits but nothing is happening. Do they also have to set this?:
Byte 04 Bit 4 Activation of both Rear Fog Lights
Help! They are about to give up and I have to pay them for their time anyway!

Re: Rear Fog VAG-COM.............
I didn't bother with the dealer, VAG tool. Got a Euro switch from VAG parts(Martyn) and installed. No issues. Works. Was "plug and play" .Check with RyanA3 on this board. Also have Euro rear tails with amber signal lens.Looks good.

Sorry, Not all is PNP... Myself and others required the VAG tool...
You have the right Long Coding
Activate Rear - Byte 4 / Bit 6 = 0
Rear Fog 1 or 2 - Byte 3 / Bit 1 = 1
Activate All Fogs - Byte 4 / Bit 4 = 1
Is your "Euro" switch have two pull-outs for fogs? Pull halfway front full for both?
Activate Rear - Byte 4 / Bit 6 = 0
Rear Fog 1 or 2 - Byte 3 / Bit 1 = 1
Activate All Fogs - Byte 4 / Bit 4 = 1

Do Audi rear fogs turn off with ignition?
I heard of a new standard for rear foglights where they turn off with the ignition and stay off until you turn them on again (Like rear window defrosters)
This keeps the driver from looking like an idiot by leaving them on all the time, and keeps me from following with my high beams on as a reminder to turn the RF's off :-)

Leave them on??
Are you suggesting people leave their rear fogs on all the time? This is the same as leaving your high beams on all the time. They're way too bright to be used in traffic on clear nights..
They should be used only when visibility is severely limited by weather.

No--I'm saying that because the fog light function is
"Pull switch out when it's in the "headlights on" position," it's impossible to leave the fogs on. You have to perform an overt action to turn them on after turning the headlights on. The switch forces you to turn the fogs off when you turn the switch to the OFF position.

Mine is a TWO position switch-pull 1/2way out WITH Headlights ON is Front Fog, all the way out is Front and Left REAR Fog. Where are you planning to buy switch? Check with Martyn at VAGparts.com. There are many combos as you stated. Need to list ALL options on car. However no issues with mine.
