Default Installed my Xenon 5000k conversion kit. NOW WITH PICS BWW

Installed my xenon kit from today. http://www.cqlight.ca At first I was worried because what I recieved looked NOTHING like what was in the pics but it seems to be working just fine. The install was so easy, it was stupid. It took me longer to figure out where/how to mount the balast and igniters than anything else. I didn't even have to use a soldering iron. I could also pop the old halogen bulb back in there without too much hassle if I wanted to.

The light is bluer than I hoped but it is also significantly brighter than my old hi beam bulbs in the lo socket trick. In other news, my projector lenses are seriously foggy, that will be fixed tomorrow with brand new e-code lenses.

$200 for HID kit vs. $40 for new Halogens or $90 for HIR halogens... Now that HID kits are so cheap, the choice is clear.

The kit:

Drop in to 9006 bulb holder.

I moved the passenger side ballast (blue box) to behind the airbox, mounted with double sided tape. Everything else is basically as you see it.

Half and half. Halogen bulb is a 9005 high beam Sylvania 60 watt.

Full effect (headlights aren't aimed yet.

Default All you guys with the McCulloch HK Special hid kits...they're not real McCulloch

i spent several hours on the phone on Friday talking to the McCulloch authorized distributor and i found out that the guy Andy Chiu who sells all the $185 kits is a very disliked person. he sells fake kits for much less money and the real distributors are having a hard time dealing with him. how does this affect us? who knows for now, but internally its not the same quality as real McCulloch. If anyone is interested I have setup an account with the main distributor and I can sell you guys the GENUINE McCulloch kits in any color temp for $250 shipped. This comes with a 1 year USA warranty and is genuine. Considering an 8000k fake kit is $203, its pretty much worth it. The best price online is $299. www.xenonpros.com is the main distrib and www.xenonking.com buys from them.

Default what is HIR Halogen?

never heard that kind of bulb.
5000k wouldn't be blue color.it should be whiter.
mine,10000k in low beam and 12000k in foglight.
definitely blue but it sucked when it's raining

Default Re: what is HIR Halogen?

HIR is something like Halogen Infered Reflecting. Someone here found out about them a while ago and there was a big buy. The technology was big when it came out, before HIDs were big and before they were cheap. Its a regular halogen bulb, but shaped differently (more bubble shaped) and has a special coating on it to reflect some of the heat the bulb makes, back to the filiment, causing it to burn hotter and brighter. I have them in the highbeams on my car, they work okay. Worth the $$? Probably not. They were stock on 1st gen Vipers and John Deere uses them in their large tractors.

Also, i thought that after 8000k you start to loose light output and get more color.

Default Real or not they kick A$$......

and for the price are the best upgrade you can do the this car IMO.

Funny that you come on here and make a statement like that and then slip in "I can get you the real ones" in the same paragraph!

You might be right, but I have been thoroughly impressed with my cheap HK HID kit. super easy to install and has been working for months flawlessly.

I feel the same way, it wasn't that long ago when HID kits were $1200...No way I'd pay that much.
