Default New pads and rotors = petal fade?

Hi,
Installed new front pads and rotors. Brakes worked great, then after a few miles the brake petal began dropping. Noe it almost to the floor before the brakes take hold.

There is no loss of fluid, and I did not open an lines or bleeders.

Did I miss something in the process?
Should I bleed the system?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Well, you certainly need to inspect the brake system. Bleeding should be a part of normal brake system maintenance.

Bleeding--pressur bleeder advised--is a part of my pad replacement procedure.

Get a power bleeder and a bunch of some cheap fluid and then start bleeding and when you think you have bled them enough, just keep bleeding. Once the pedal is back then do one last bleed with high quality fluid.

I had same issue and went through almost 2 liters of fluid to get all the little air bubbles out. Don't know how the air got in, but it was a PITA to get all back out.

And if you employ old pedal pump technique, don't push the pedal down to the floor. Unlike clutch, brake pedal never travels 100% down so power pressing it while bleeding might cause seal failure.

Power bleeder if the easiest to do.

Bled the brakes, the old fashioned way. I was careful.

One front line expelled a few small bubbles. Both rears where "dry". It took a few pumps to get fluid flowing.

pedal is firm again. I think a fluid change is in order in the near future.

Thanks for the responses.
